Auto Level or Optical Level is a very delicate instrument hence utmost care has to be taken while transporting the instrument. Accuracy of instrument can go up to 1mm for a distance of 30 or 60 meters depending on the model being selected. Some of the model can give accuracy of 1mm level (Vertical Angle) over 120 meters distance. Bosch make optical level have inbuilt level correction of up 15 arc minutes of angle if the device is out of levelling. Such a small angle adjustment is also time consuming at site. But thanks to the auto feature instrument takes care.

For site test Bosch recommends two peg test method, details of which is described in the Bosch product manual. It is always better to verify the level before the instrument is put to use. Due to long distance transportation, sudden variation in temperature etc., may cause some times the device to function outside its intended application.

The test setup and the procedure may take 15 minutes for an expert to perform. But it is worth to spend the time instead of re-work later. Please be informed this is in no way a replacement or substitute method for laboratory calibration. Laboratory calibration happens at very detailed level and under controlled condition.
